India, August 26, 2025: A new industry body—Indian Game Publishers and Developers Association (IGPDA)—has been formed by nine India-based developers and publishers to accelerate original made-in-India game IP and strengthen talent across the AVGC (animation, VFX, gaming, comics) value chain. The association also aims to enable India to build globally competitive AAA titles.
Founding members
- Nazara Technologies

- nCore Games
- Reliance Games
- SuperGaming

- Dot9 Games
What the IGPDA will do
- Champion Indian IP: Bring Indian stories and culture into mainstream gaming.
- Skill building: Upskill across AVGC roles via partnerships with tools/tech providers, academia, and investors.
- AAA ambitions: Create conditions for studios to build and ship global-quality titles from India.
- Unified voice: Represent industry interests across regulatory, investment, and operational issues.
How it’s structured
The body brings together primary members (developers, studios, publishers, platforms) and partners (tools/tech providers, academia/training institutes, investors, and ecosystem enablers) to collaborate on development and market growth.
Leaders speak
“The IGPDA will provide the platform that helps to unify the voice of the gaming industry and articulate its interests… ensuring India’s vibrant gaming sector expands responsibly and sustainably.”
“Video gaming is the biggest creative industry… With our own games based on our culture, we can bring revenue to the country and export our culture. IGPDA will supercharge this effort to make India a gaming superpower.”
State partnership proposal: Maharashtra
The IGPDA has proposed working with the Maharashtra government to make Mumbai a global games hub through policy support that attracts companies to the state.
“We welcome this proactive initiative… Our focus has been to drive strategic investments, foster global partnerships, and accelerate transformative infrastructure and technology initiatives in Maharashtra.”
Regulatory context
The formation of IGPDA follows the passage of India’s Online Gaming Bill, which, as reported, distinguishes traditional video games and esports from real-money games, betting, and gambling platforms. The bill is stated to seek a ban on platforms offering online betting and money-stake card/fantasy games.
Why it matters
- Homegrown IP push: A coordinated effort to reduce dependence on imports and elevate Indian narratives.
- Talent pipeline: Focus on AVGC skills can expand the workforce beyond mobile-only development.
- Investment signal: A unified body may improve investor confidence and policy engagement.
